French youngster Diane Parry squares off against the experienced German Anna-Lena Friedsam in the WTA Angers Arena Loire Open on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old has not been able to win a singles title this season. However, she won the doubles title in the Poland Open, partnering with Anna Danilina. She reached the semifinals of the Slovenia Open in September. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Diane Parry.
Friedsam comes into the tournament on the back of some good form. She made it to the finals of the WTA 125 event in Midland, US. However, she lost to seventh seed Caty McNally in a one-sided final. Friedsam also made it to the final in the doubles event, teaming with Nadiia Kichenok, but went down to top seeds Alycia Parks and Asia Muhammad.
The talented youngster has not been in great form in the last few tournaments she has played. In fact, Parry is currently on a four-match losing streak.
Parry has shown promise in the middle half of the season. She impressed at the French Open, defeating the experienced Barbora Krejcikova and Camila Osorio in the first couple of rounds. At the WTA 125 event in Gaiba, Italy, Parry made it to the semis. She also reached the third round at Wimbledon but lost to eventual runner-up Ons Jabeur. Parry also made it to the semis at the Granby National Bank Championships.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Anna-Lena Friedsam.
Prediction: Anna-Lena Friedsam to win in three sets.
