The in-form Clara Tauson faces second seed Anhelina Kalinina in the quarterfinals of the WTA Angers Arena Loire Open on Friday.
The youngster from Denmark has been in phenomenal form as of late. She has reached her fourth quarterfinal in a row and is currently on a 7-match winning streak. Tauson had made it to her sixth quarterfinal this year. Out of the five quarter-final matches, she has played this season, she has emerged victorious on a couple of occasions.
In the round of 32, Tauson produced a dominant display and outplayed Sabine Lisicki in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Tauson faced sixth seed Anna Blinkova in the round of 16 and defeated the Russian athlete with a solid performance in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.
The Ukrainian tennis pro has also won both of her matches so far in straight sets. She has reached her sixth quarterfinal this season. In the five quarterfinals she has played so far in 2022, only once has she managed to pick up a win.
Kalinina began her campaign with a one-sided affair against America’s Katrina Scott. Kalinina won the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. The 25-year-old followed it up with another confident performance against former Grand Slam champion Sofia Kenin in the round of 16. The match ended 6-4, 6-4 in favor of Kalinina.
Clara Tauson has a 1-0 lead in the head-to-head scoreline. She defeated Kalinina in straight sets in the 2022 Gippsland Trophy.
