2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin locks horns with the talented Ukrainian, Dayana Yastremska, in the round of 32 of the WTA Angers Arena Loire Open on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old had a promising start to her season as she reached the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International, where she lost to top seed Ashleigh Barty. Since then, it has been a real struggle for the American youngster.
She went on a 9-match losing streak before making it to the quarterfinals of the Tennis in the Land tournament. Kenin went on another losing streak of three matches before reaching the semis in an ITF 25 event in Waco, Texas, USA. She made it to the quarterfinals at the WTA 125 event in Midland, USA, which is the last time she stepped foot on the court. Kenin will hope to have a deep run in the tournament.
The Odesa-born youngster has also had a tough season in 2022. She produced her best result at the Lyon Open in March where she finished runner-up. Yastremska also made it to the quarterfinals in three other tournaments – Dubai Tennis Championships, Copa Colsanitas, and the Birmingham Classic.
The 22-year-old most recently played in the WTA 125 event in Andorra. She was ousted in the round of 16 by Poland’s Weronika Falkowska.
Dayana Yastremska has a 2-1 lead in the head-to-head scoreline. In their most recent meeting at the 2020 Qatar Open, Yastremska defeated Kenin in straight sets 6-3, 7-6.
Prediction: Sofia Kenin to win in three sets.
