French qualifier Emeline Dartron locks horns with the rejuvenated Anna-Lena Friedsam in the quarterfinals of the WTA Angers Arena Loire Open on Friday.

The 28-year-old is finishing the season on a high. After finishing runner-up at the WTA 125 event in Midland, US, Anna-Lena Friedsam has continued her rich vein of form in Angers.
She outclassed Diane Parry in the round of 32. The match ended in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in favour of the German. Friedsam dominated and won the first set of her second match against Belgium’s Magali Kempen. However, the second set turned out to be a big test as Kempen fought tooth and nail with her back against the wall. In the end, Friedsam managed to eke out a close win in the tiebreak to take the match 6-1, 7-6 (10-8). Friedsam also benefitted from the 8 double faults committed by her opponent.
Emeline Dartron
World No. 591 also came into the tournament after finishing runner-up in her last assignment at an ITF event in France. Dartron entered the main draw after progressing from the qualifiers. She defeated Justina Mikulskyte and Chloe Noel to make it to the main draw.
In the first round, Dartron defeated lucky loser Pemra Ozgen after dropping the first set. The match ended 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-2 in favor of the Frenchwoman. In the round of 16, Dartron produced a huge upset as she defeated fifth seed Tamara Korpatsch with a solid performance in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
