Karolina Muchova

Muchova missed the earlier half of the season, including the Australian Open owing to injury. She returned to action in Miami and made it to the third round but pulled out ahead of the match against Naomi Osaka.

At the French Open, Muchova reached the third round for the second consecutive year. She was forced to retire during her match against Amanda Anisimova owing to an injury to her left thigh and right ankle. Injuries have been holding back her progress this season. She will be hoping for a strong finish so that she could have something to build on in 2023.

Clara Burel

The former junior world No. 1 has not been in good form this season. However, she managed to produce a good result at the US Open as she made it to the third round for the first time in Flushing Meadows. During her run at the last major of the year, she ousted 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.

Burel was most recently seen in action at the WTA Montevideo Open. The 21-year-old made it to the quarterfinals with wins against Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva and Ann Li. Her run eventually ended against sixth seed Kateryna Baindl.
