Second seed Anhelina Kalhinina locks horns with America’s Katrina Scott in the round of 32 of the WTA Angers Arena Loire Open on Tuesday.
The teenager from Los Angeles reached four ITF finals this year and ended up winning three of them. Scott was most recently seen in action at the WTA 125 event in Andorra. She defeated Jessika Ponchet in the first round but lost to second seed Alison Van Uytvanck in the round of 16. Scott would hope to fare better against the No. 2 seed in Angers.
Coached by Davis Kass, Scott will have to be ready for a stern test as Anhelina Kalhinina is in decent form at the moment. Scott will have to play attacking tennis and the margin for error will be very little.
The 25-year-old has made it to the quarterfinals in four WTA Tour-level tournaments – Charleston Open, the Madrid Open, Eastbourne International, and the Transylvania Open. She went on a six-match losing streak starting from Wimbledon’s second round and going on till the US Open first round.
Kalinina played the ITF event in Shrewsbury before coming to Angers. In that tournament, the Ukrainian made it to the semifinals with wins against Elsa Jacquemot, Freya Christie, and Eliz Maloney. She eventually lost to Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as both women will be facing each other for the first time at the WTA Angers Arena Loire Open.
Prediction: Anhelina Kalinina to win in straight sets.
