Fifth seed Tamara Korpatsch faces America’s Elizabeth Mandlik in the round of 32 of the WTA Angers Arena Loire Open on Monday.
The 27-year-old made her Wimbledon main-draw debut this year. She lost to Heather Watson in the first round. The biggest moment in her career came at the WTA 125 tournament – the Budapest Open, where she won the championship by defeating Viktoriya Tomova in the final.
Other than the Budapest Open, Korpatsch has secured titles in a couple of ITF events in France and Switzerland. The German athlete also made it to the finals of the WTA 125 event in Marbella but eventually lost to third seed Mayar Sherif in the final. Korpatsch most recently played in the ITF event in Valencia last month. She was the top seed in the tournament. However, her run ended in the semis after a loss to Marina Bassols Ribera.
Mandlik had a bright start to the year as she won a couple of ITF titles in Brazil. The 21-year-old played a lot of tournaments on the ITF circuit in the USA in June. She also finished runner-up at an ITF event in the USA in August.
Mandlik most recently played in the WTA 125 event in Midland, US, earlier in November. She won her first-round encounter against Gabriela Lee. In the following round, she lost to fifth seed Camila Osorio in straight sets.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have not faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Tamara Korpatsch to win in straight sets.
