Coco Gauff

The 18-year-old is playing her first WTA Finals. Is she someone to be overawed by momentous occasions? Not at all. Gauff has had a very promising season, albeit devoid of a title. She made it to the semis in Adelaide and in Berlin. However, her best result came when she made it to the finals of the French Open. At the US Open, Gauff had a solid run to the quarterfinals but Caroline Garcia was the one who ousted her.

Following the US Open and prior to the WTA Finals, Gauff has played in a couple of tournaments – the San Diego Open and the Guadalajara Open. At both events, she lost in the quarterfinals.

Caroline Garcia

The Frenchwoman has also had a solid season, especially after the first half. At one point in time, she was looking invincible. Garcia won her first title of the season when she defeated Bianca Andreescu to bag the Bad Homburg Open. She won her second title of the season by getting past Ana Bogdan in Poland. Her dream run continued in Cincinnati as she won her third title of the season. At the US Open, she reached her first semifinal at a major.

Garcia has moved up 68 spots and is the only player to win titles on all three courts this season. The 29-year-old is coming into the tournament on the back of an exit in the round of 16 at the Guadalajara Open.

Head-to-Head and Prediction

The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 2-1 in favor of Gauff. Garcia got on the board in her last encounter with Gauff at the US Open quarterfinals. The match ended 6-3, 6-4 in favor of the experienced campaigner.

Prediction: Caroline Garcia to win in three sets.
