After suffering crushing defeats in their respective opening matches, Coco Gauff and Daria Kasatkina will be looking to get on the board when they face each other in the WTA Finals on Thursday.
The 18-year-old is making her debut at the WTA Finals. She has made her way into the prestigious event with some promising results throughout the season. Gauff came into the tournament on the back of three consecutive quarter-final appearances, at the US Open, the San Diego Open, and the Guadalajara Open.
In her first match, the American youngster faced the French veteran, Caroline Garcia. The experienced campaigner produced a fine display to win the match in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Gauff will be hoping to bounce back and get her campaign up and running.
While Gauff was ousted in the quarterfinals in her last three events, Kasatkina exited in the round of 16 at the Ostrava Open, the San Diego Open, and the Guadalajara Open.
The Russian No. 1 had a stiff task ahead of her in her first match at the WTA Finals. She squared off against world No. 1 Iga Swiatek. The Polish sensation made light work of her and romped to a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Kasatkina will be confident about her chances against Gauff as she has already defeated the 2022 French Open runner-up on a couple of occasions.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 2-0 in favor of Kasatkina. In their most recent meeting at the 2022 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, Kasatkina got the better of Gauff in straight sets.
Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in three sets.
