The dominant team of Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova takes on the team of Giuliana Olmos and Gabriela Dabrowski in a crucial group-stage encounter at the WTA Finals.
The experienced duo needs to win a set to book their tickets to the semifinal. Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko will take on the team of Beatriz Haddad Maia and Anna Danilina in the match prior so a win for the former team will help Mertens and Kudermetova progress to the semifinals, even if they lose in straight sets in their match.
Mertens and Kudermetova lost the first set in their first match against Ostapenko and Kichenok. The former team came back from strong to win the match 3-6, 6-1, 10-6. In the second match, Kudermetova and Mertens defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia and Anna Danilina in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
The Canadian-Mexican duo has a 1-1 record so far in the competition. They are still in contention to progress further in the competition.
Olmos and Dabrowski lost their opening encounter against Danilina and Haddad Maia quite disappointingly. After producing some fight in the first set, Olmos and Dabrowski got bageled in the second set to eventually lose the match 5-7, 0-6. In the following match, Dabrowski and Olmos secured a hard-fought victory with the score 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 12-10 against Ostapenko and Kichenok.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Mertens and Kudermetova.
Prediction: Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova to win in straight sets.
