World No. 1 Iga Swiatek begins her WTA Finals campaign against world No. 8 Daria Kasatkina in the round-robin stage of the WTA Finals on Tuesday.
Iga Swiatek
It’s been a season to remember for Iga Swiatek. She is the irresistible force and also the immovable object. The Polish sensation has managed to win as many as 8 titles this season. That includes a couple of major titles at the French Open and the US Open.
The 21-year-old is coming into the tournament after claiming the San Diego Open title after beating Donna Vekic in the final. Last year, at the WTA Finals, Swiatek defeated Paula Badosa but lost to Maria Sakkari and Aryna Sabalenka.
Daria Kasatkina
The Russian youngster has had a fruitful season as well. She won the Silicon Valley Classic after defeating the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Paula Badosa, and more. The 25-year-old also won the WTA Granby final against Daria Saville. At the French Open, Kasatkina made it to her first-ever semifinal at a major.
Kasatkina has not been in great form as of late. She lost in the first round in Flushing Meadows and since then, has been ousted in the round of 16 in the three consecutive tournaments.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 4-1 in favor of Swiatek. She defeated Kasatkina four times this season. Their most recent encounter took place at the French Open semis which Swiatek won in straight sets.
Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in straight sets.
