World No. 2 Ons Jabeur will take on world No. 7 Aryna Sabalenka in the group stage of the WTA Finals on Monday.
The Tunisian star has had a stellar year thus far. She has made it to the finals at Wimbledon and the US Open but suffered heartbreaking losses to Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek, respectively. Jabeur has also won a couple of titles this year. The first win came at the Madrid Open while another win came at the Berlin Open.
She comes into the tournament on the back of a quarter-final exit in the Jasmin Open earlier this month. The 28-year-old lost to Claire Liu in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 4-6.
The Belarusian tennis pro has been rather inconsistent with her performances this year. She made it to the finals in the Stuttgart Open but fell short against Iga Swiatek. Sabalenka reached her second final this season at the Libema Open but could not cross the line against Ekaterina Alexandrova. At the US Open, Sabalenka made it to the semifinals. This was her second consecutive semi-final appearance in Flushing Meadows.
The former world No. 2 most recently played in the Guadalajara Open. Her run was ended in the round of 32 by Liudmila Samsonova in three sets.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 2-1 in favor of Sabalenka. She defeated Jabeur in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Wimbledon in straight sets.
Prediction: Ons Jabeur to win in three sets.
