World No. 146 Harmony Tan locks horns with the Argentine Martina Capurro Taborda in the round of 32 of the WTA Montevideo Open.
Harmony Tan
It has been a rather timid year for the Frenchwoman. She has not won a title this year but her standout result came at Wimbledon, where she defeated Serena Williams in the first round. She followed it up with comprehensive wins against Sara Sorribes Tormo and Katie Boulter. Her run ended in the round of 16 after suffering a loss to Amanda Anisimova. This was the first time Tan reached the round of 16 at a Grand Slam.
The 25-year-old most recently played in the WTA 125 event in Buenos Aires, Argentina. However, her journey ended abruptly as she retired during her match in the round of 32 against Hailey Baptiste while trailing 6-4, 1-0.
Martina Capurro Taporda
The 24-year-old Argentine has found success this season in Brazil. She won an ITF event in Sao Paulo in May. Martina followed it up with a run to the final in the following tournament in Brazil. She won her second title in the next tournament that happened in Brazil. So with two ITF titles, it seemed as if the youngster would go from strength to strength. However, a slump has seen her reach only one semifinal since then.
She played in the ITF event in Medellin earlier in the month but lost in the round of 32 against 12th seed Gabriela Ce in straight sets.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head record currently stands at 1-1. Harmony Tan won their previous encounter at an ITF event in Spain in 2016.
Prediction: Harmony Tan to win in three sets.
