10th seed Leolia Jeanjean takes on the world No. 112 Irina Bara in the quarterfinals of the WTA Montevideo Open on Friday.
The Romanian athlete has not had a great season in the singles circuit. She is yet to win a title but in the doubles circuit, she has bagged an ITF title in Marbella and a WTA 125 title in Buenos Aires. Her best singles result came at an ITF event in the USA in April where she made it to the semis. This is going to be her sixth quarter-final appearance in 2022 and she has a 1-4 record so far in the last-8 stage this season.
The 27-year-old began her campaign with an excellent come-from-behind win against Ekaterine Gorgodze 1-6, 6-4, 6-0. Bara followed it up with a comprehensive performance against China’s You Xiaodi in the round of 16. The former won the match 6-4, 6-2.
The Frenchwoman has also reached her sixth quarterfinal this season. She has a 4-1 record so far in the quarterfinals in 2022. She bagged her only title thus far in the season at an ITF event in France in April.
Jeanjean began her campaign with an unblemished 6-0, 6-0 win against Solana Sierra in the round of 32. The 27-year-old went from strength to strength and picked up another convincing win against Harmony Tan in the round of 16. Tan fought hard in the first set but capitulated in the second to give Jeanjean a 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 win.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Leolia Jeanjean to win in three sets.
