Sixth-seeded Kateryna Baindl takes on America’s Emma Navarro in the round of 32 of the WTA Montevideo Open on Monday.
The Ukrainian athlete finished runner-up in an ITF event in France and also made it to the semifinal in the Poland Open earlier in the year but struggled for consistency. She made it to the finals at an ITF event in Spain but lost to Jasmine Paolini on the big stage. At the Copa LP Chile, earlier this month, Baindl played well and made it to the final after defeating the second-seeded Danka Kovinic in the semis. Baindl lost to top-seeded Mayar Sherif in the final.
Following the Copa LP Chile, Baindl took part in the WTA 125K event in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The 28-year-old could not continue her good form as she lost in the round of 16 against Sara Errani in straight sets.
The 21-year-old has shown sparks of her talent on the ITF circuit this year. She played in the finals of an ITF event in the Netherlands. After the tournament, she won her second-career ITF title by triumphing at the Liepaja Open. In September, she lost in the finals of an ITF event in Switzerland.
Navarro most recently participated in the WTA 125K event in Buenos Aires and lost in the round of 16 in three sets against Panna Udvardy.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never met each other before.
Prediction: Kateryna Baindl to win in three sets.
