Matt Hady brings up WWE icons Roman Reigns and Randy Orton when defending Kenny Omega
It all started with Chris Jericho putting up a tweet that heavily praised Kenny Omega and called him the best pro wrestler in the world right now.
That is an opinion many seem to have, with him collecting belts in every promotion he goes to including AEW. However, some disagreed.
Many compared Omega with WWE star Roman Reigns, with one fan seeing sense and mentioning that it is better to enjoy the pro wrestler of your choice without comparisons.
The entire thread, from Jericho’s tweet, to Matt Hardy’s defence, can be seen below:
And this is where Hardy saw fit to bring up Reigns and Randy Orton, two WWE stars that are household names unlike Kenny Omega, who might be a pro wrestling great but does not have the same marketing push behind him.
Matt Hardy tells why Kenny Omega catches flak as he makes Roman Reigns, Randy Orton comparison
Hardy wrote that he likes ‘The Tribal Chief’, ‘The Viper’, and Omega as people and performers but mentioned how they are different in their styles.
Matt also mentioned that Omega’s past and ‘over the topness’ is the reason why he gets criticized, but reiterated how he is currently dominating promotions that lie just below WWE in the pro wrestling echelons.
“Solid & fair take. As people & performers, I like Kenny, Randy & Roman. They’re all very different, but awesome at what they do. Kenny catches flak cuz of his past & over the topness, but there’s no denying he’s currently killing it, esp considering the AEW style. He’s special.”
Decorated with accolades including being Sports Illustrated’s Wrestler of the Year in 2017, Omega currently holds the AEW World Championship, the AAA Mega Championship, and the Impact World Championship.
There is no denying that he is a modern great, but the debate who ‘the best’ pro wrestler is will never seem to have an objective answer, and neither is there a need for it.
WWE wrestlers seem to have a more mainstream fanbase because of the show’s marketing while talent in other companies gain much less fame and popularity worldwide, which is probably why Omega’s name does not pop up in a lot of people’s debates about the greatest wrestler of this generation.
