John Morrison lifted several titles in WWE and is set to return after nearly a decade

WWE confirmed the return of former ECW, Intercontinental and tag champion John Morrison.

The news was initially broken by Ryan Satin and later confirmed by the wrestling promotion.

Morrison last wrestled for WWE in 2011 and had been doing a great job in other promotions.

The report confirmed that the Shaman of Sexy had signed a long-term deal with his former company.

Who is John Morrison?

The 40-year-old was the winner of Tough Enough III and sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling to develop and train further.

He was part of the tag team MNM which also featured Melina and Joey Mercury. Morrison won several titles as part of MNM but then went on to be a decent singles competitor too.

He won the ECW and Intercontinental titles but was never able to win the top prize in either WWE brand.

Morrison has had chances at the WWE title but lost out to the Miz in one clash. The 40-year-old was great in the ring but couldn’t agree on a new deal with WWE and left the company in 2011.

Melina and Mercury remained with the company but Morrison broke new ground leaving WWE.

Titles galore for Morrison

The American has travelled the world since his WWE days and won titles in nearly every promotion he has been in.

Morrison won the Impact World Championship during his time with Impact wrestling. His contract also lapsed with the promotion and this led to him returning to WWE.

The 40-year-old has also won titles at Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, Lucha Underground, 5 Star Wrestling and several other promotions.

What next for Morrison?

WWE could not confirm when his first appearance would be but this is a great signing for the brand.

Morrison was already a great wrestler in the ring and now, with more titles under him, could be given a shot at the top prize again.

It will also be interesting to see if he first starts off at NXT and then moves to SmackDown or Raw.

Morrison was great in the tag team division too and that is another route WWE can start with before transitioning him into the singles field.
