The 2020 WWE Draft kicked off with Day 1 having some shock moves across Raw and SmackDown
The 2020 WWE Draft kicked off with Raw and SmackDown keeping their respective men’s champions in the first round of Day 1.
The draft was split into four rounds with Stephanie McMahon, and there were some big calls made from both brands.
All the Raw and SmackDown stars were available in the draft and it was a little weird seeing the brands picking names of stars that already competed in the brand.
At the end of the four rounds, Raw had 12 picks and SmackDown 8. There was also some confusion when picking names as brands could select tag teams or factions as one whole pick.
The landscape of WWE didn’t change all too much like in the past drafts. The one big talking point was seeing the New Day being split.
Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston returned from injury to win the SmackDown tag titles. But they were sent to Raw with Big E remaining on SmackDown.
These are the picks from both promotions after Day 1 of the 2020 WWE Draft.
Raw | SmackDown |
Drew McIntyre | Roman Reigns |
Asuka | Seth Rollins |
Hurt Business | Sasha Banks |
AJ Styles | Bianca Belair |
Naomi | Jey Uso |
Jax and Baszler | Dominik and Rey Mysterio |
Ricochet | Big E |
Mandy Rose | Otis |
Miz and Morrison | |
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods | |
Dana Brooke | |
Angel Garza |
From the looks of the first day of the draft, there isn’t much to split the sides. There weren’t many brand changes too with Seth Rollins and the Mysterios moving to SmackDown with Bianca Belair.
Raw got two New Day members while AJ Styles also joined them. Naomi was another star that changed brands and hopefully, she will get a push on Raw.
Rollins moving to SmackDown does make things interesting, especially if he would go up against former Shield brother Roman Reigns.
The pair are two of the top heels in WWE but seeing the Mysterios there means Rollins will keep attacking the father-son duo.
Styles returning to Raw could be great as he goes up against McIntyre, and then there are Kingston and Woods.
The New Day stars are without Big E but could make the Raw Tag Team division stronger. However, it is to be seen what happens to their SmackDown titles.
Raw and SmackDown both picked up one killer singles star, but it seems that the Red Brand got the better end of the trades on the first day.
