WWE legend Edge shares relationship with John Cena during the WWE Championship storyline
Former WWE Champion Edge has opened up on a possible rematch with John Cena in front of a packed crowd in WWE.
The two were bitter rivals in the mid 2000s, fighting tooth and nail for the WWE Championship.
On an episode of The Kurt Angle Show, Edge revealed what it was to work with the 16-time Champion during their time on RAW, saying: (h/t 411 Mania)
“Website hits and everything went through the roof, so it was like, ‘Go back to that.’ And then once they went back to us, I think we ran for about a year and a half after that, just night in, night out. They rebooted again after, and then again, and we’d end up on SmackDown, and it just kept going and going and going. The only thing with John and I is we never wrestled one-on-one at WrestleMania. “
“That’s what John and I would do because you don’t know night-to-night what an audience is going to do. So, to be able to think on your toes and be able to go with your gut out there. That’s what John and I did, and that was fun.”
Cena and Edge have both returned to WWE and will be an integral part of SummerSlam. Edge will face Seth Rollins, while Cena renews his rivalry with Roman Reigns for the Universal title.
After the shock return at Money in the Bank, Cena will be one of the hottest topics in the wrestling world. His return stemmed a huge pop with a growing excitement leading into SummerSlam. Cena said that he’s back because Reigns is the ‘biggest a**hole’ in the business and needs to be taught a lesson.
Reigns, on the other hand is the dominant Universal Champion since August 2020 and looks unstoppable. With Cena entering into the fray, the possibility of a 17th major title isn’t very far away.
Will the writing team continue the reign of The Head of the Table or will the leader of the Cenation create history next month?
