Adam Pearce brought in Kevin Owens to face Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble

There was a big surprise for Roman Reigns on the last WWE SmackDown. The Big Dog wanted Adam Pearce to sign a contract for a Last Man Standing match at the Royal Rumble.

Pearce was forced to participate a gauntlet match to decide Reigns’ next rival. Reigns and Jey Uso then beat up Shinsuke Nakamura and helped the WWE Executive win.

While Pearce was hesitant to sign the contract, he pulled a switch. He claimed that there was an injury and he had to be replaced. Kevin Owens, who faced Reigns at TLC 2020, came out to sign the contract and Reigns was left upset.

However, Pearce has posted an update on just why he wasn’t allowed to wrestle at the Rumble. He is a former NWA Heavyweight champion and also in their Hall of Fame.

He first thanked the fans who wanted him to fight Reigns:

“A note of #gratitude to those that supported the idea of seeing me face Roman Reigns at Royal Rumble. Wrestling fans have amazed me for 25+ years and now is no different.”

However, he again brought up the not being fit to fight part:

“That said, some things just aren’t meant to be, and “not medically cleared” is a status I wish on no one.”

Pearce really injured?

It is tough to say if Pearce is really injured or not. This could be a move to continue his storyline and Reigns would want proof that Pearce is actually injured as part of his hounding of the executive.

Pearce also could be carrying some sort of previous injury and might not be actually medically cleared by WWE to perform in dangerous matches.

He has been beaten up quite a bit in the backstage regions recently, but fighting Reigns in a Last Man Standing match might be too much of a strain on the body.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what is next. Reigns looked upset at what happened while Owens was raring to go.
