AEW outnumbering WWE in ticket sales before return of crowds

AEW is performing better than WWE in ticket sales, according to reports

WWE is lagging behind in the ticket sales in comparison to Tony Khan‘s AEW, according to Wrestling Observer Radio‘s Dave Meltzer.

AEW is the surprise package in terms of ticket sales in certain places across the country:

“They’re behind AEW in ticket sales as far as per show thing. They had a very good first week. Houston for [July] 16th with Edge on his first night back came out very strong. The Fort Worth pay-per-view is almost sold out so they’re gonna have 10,000 people in there so that’s good. Dallas, I thought was weak but now I don’t think it’s weak anymore compared to anything else. The only good one is there’s a Raw in Chicago at the Allstate Arena that’s probably around 6,000-6,300 sold which would be well below what I would expect but I would certainly not call it bad this far in advance.” (h/t Wrestling Observer Radio)

WWE is going to return to touring next month on the July 16th episode of WWE SmackDown.

Money in the Bank is going to fill with a 10,000 capacity. WWE is looking to make a big statement by announcing a full capacity attendance at Allegiant Stadium for Summerslam 2021. The biggest event of the summer is going to be in Las Vegas, Nevada on the 21st of August.

Meanwhile, AEW is performing better in Jacksonville, their home. WWE is receding in numbers in places like Miami and Charlotte.

AEW’s Fight with WWE

Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling has been doing impressively well in Miami and Charlotte. With the addition of former WWE Superstars like Mark Henry and Andrade El Idolo, this is rubbing salt on WWE’s wounds.

AEW is home to Jacksonville, FL

“Miami, AEW is ahead and Charlotte, AEW is ahead. Charlotte is a big surprise because in those Carolina markets, WWE is [typically] way ahead in interest in those Carolina markets and all the traditional wrestling markets. AEW is stronger in what I would call not traditional wrestling markets….they both put tickets on sale for Charlotte. Braun Strowman and Aleister Black are probables to join the rampant force of AEW. This is only after the completion of the 90-day no compete clause.
