Aiden English was one of the stars released by WWE recently
Former WWE star Aiden English took to Twitter to remind people that he is still a great wrestler.
A fan tweeted how “great” a wrestler English was but didn’t want to sound like a “d***”. However, English replied by suggesting that a lot of people thought the same but they were wrong:
“Apparently a lot of people did…but they were wrong”
The 32-year old former NXT Tag Team Champion was released by the company during a wave of cuts related to cost reduction due to COVID-19. He’d been working as an announcer of late after one of the top in-ring runs of his career.
English was brought to Smackdown as a member of the Vaudevillains with Simon Gotch, before the latter’s release.
English got over huge as a member of Rusev Day. That would see him singing along with the also now-released Rusev. After a turn and a feud culminated, English was pulled from in-ring competition to serve as a commentator for 205 Live.
Though he’s been out of the ring for over a year, he’d noted publicly earlier in 2020 that his in-ring days were not over.
English was his most popular in WWE when paired with Rusev in the Rusev Day tag team. He talked about what it was like going from The Vaudevillains tag team to the Rusev Day team, saying it was coincidental that he and Rusev were paired together.
“By pure circumstance, I end up in a match with (Randy Orton) while he’s kind of starting this thing with Rusev, and so it was really coincidental and I don’t think (it was) meant to become anything,” he said.
“I was just there since I was literally already there, caused some kind of distraction which helped Rusev, then the next week we had that big ceremony where I sung the Bulgarian national anthem for the first official ‘Rusev Day.'”
English added that there weren’t actual plans to go ahead with this team. However, the response was so great that WWE continued with the pair.
The team was broken up via a faux cheating storyline where English attempted to expose Lana as untrustworthy to Rusev and alluded to him and Lana having an affair.
