The Boneyard Match between AJ Styles and the Undertaker received rave reviews at WrestleMania 36
Corey Graves was excited to finally have AJ Styles over for his podcast, After the Bell.
The Phenomenal One had been on several other shows, but Graves was pleased to finally catch hold of Styles.
The pair spoke on a lot of different topics ranging from the heat Styles got when joining WWE to who he wants to face next.
However, they also touched upon the Boneyard Match which took place at WrestleMania 36. The match could not be held in front of an audience due to the coronavirus and that allowed WWE creative to get thinking.
Holding the match in a graveyard was the obvious choice, but having edits and cuts really brought it out. However, Styles wasn’t sure it would be a hit and had his worries:
“Not only did I have the opportunity to wrestle the Undertaker at WrestleMania, we were set up to do something different.
“That different could be good, could be bad, we’re going to find out. It was fun while we were doing it but I was still, ‘Oh man, hope this works’. Cause I’m not sure how people feel about these cinematic matches.”
Styles went on to say that there was a similar match done by the New Day and the Wyatt Family. However, he didn’t hear much about the clash after it was done.
Corey Graves chipped in by saying that not having a live audience in the arena actually helped in the ratings for the match.
Previously, during PPVs, such matches would lead to a cut from the live event with the audience still in the arena.
However, this was not the case this time as the entire two-day WrestleMania was pre-taped and shown on the chosen date.
The Boneyard and the Firefly Fun House matches were two of the cinematic ones from this year’s Mania.
Both were outstanding and proved that WWE can get such matches done with the right treatment.
