Arjan Bhullar talks training with WWE superstar Jinder Mahal as he reveals his intentions to enter pro wrestling
The mace-wielding Arjan Bhullar became the first fighter of Indian descent to win an MMA world title at ONE: Dangal on 15th May 2021.
He beat Brendan Vera to become the ONE heavyweight champion and delivered a rousing speech after his victory where he talked of his intentions to get into pro wrestling.
Immediately after that, WWE sent out Baron Corbin to beef with him on Twitter. And Bhullar got into a verbal spat almost immediately.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani on ESPN MMA, where he revealed that his ONE contract will not stop him from going into pro wrestling, and that it has been his dream for while to get into the top pro wrestling promotions.
“It’s [pro wrestling] something we talked about before signing. I had it written into my [ONE] contract. It was something ONE agreed with. They wanted to create superheroes… that’s what I want to do too. I’ve always loved pro wrestling. As a kid you see a full stadium, you see these superheroes doing incredible things, I’ve always loved that. Whether it’s the Olympics, MMA, or pro wrestling, it’s the same visual, so I connect with it.”
Arjan Bhallar reveals he has already trained with a WWE superstar in the past
Bhullar tagged Jinder Mahal in his reply to King Corbin on Twitter, so it was apparent that he was looking at the ‘Modern Day Maharaja’ to give him a push.
And the ONE heavyweight champion has now revealed that he has already trained with the former WWE champion before.
“I have already trained with Jinder [Mahal] in the past. I feel like if I put my mind to it, I can do it. I will do both absolutely. No one has done both sports at the same time, I want to be the first.”
Bhullar also name-dropped AEW and King Corbin in his interview with Helwani and it seems like he will get his wish pretty soon.
Rarely has an MMA fighter be this open and vocal about getting into pro wrestling and without there being anything official, you get the feeling that he will get a contract somewhere.
Whether that’s WWE or AEW, that remains to be seen.
