The Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks and Naomi shocked the pro-wrestling fraternity with their walkout on this week’s episode of Raw. WWE Superstar Bayley and several former WWE Superstars also reacted to the issue.
The main event of this week’s episode of Raw was advertised to be a six-pack challenge to determine the no. 1 contender for Bianca Belair’s Raw Women’s Championship. Sasha Banks and Naomi were among the six women to compete in the match. However, the “Boss” did not like the creative direction of the match. As per an official statement from WWE, Naomi and Banks went to WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis’ office with their suitcases in hand. They placed their title belts on his desk and walked out.
The statement also claimed that the Women’s Tag Team Champions felt they were not paid enough respect and that they were “uncomfortable” in fighting two of the superstars who were to be involved in the six-pack challenge.
As per the reports, Banks spoke with WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, to explain her issues with the creatives. The 76-year-old McMahon, however, did not budge, which led to Banks walking out rather than competing in the match. Naomi also accompanied her partner.
“Follow your heart, kid, and you’ll never go wrong” – Bayley supports her former tag team partner
Bayley and Sasha Banks were the Women’s Tag Team Champions at one point in time. The former was also the SmackDown Women’s Champion during that period. Both women share a great bond.
Bayley took to Twitter and wrote:
“Remember…follow your heart, kid, and you’ll never go wrong”
FTR member and former WWE Superstar Scott Dawson currently competes in AEW under his original name Dax Harwood. He also stood up for his former colleague. Posting a picture with Banks, Harwood wrote:
“Always, always, ALWAYS stand up for what you believe in. Fucking ALWAYS!!!”
Matt Cardona, who was known in WWE as Zack Ryder, was not properly used by the company. He is currently the NWA world’s champion. The former WWE Superstar took to Twitter to seemingly comment on the incident and referenced a time he went through in Vince McMahon’s company when he was a victim of terrible booking.
“If I could go back in time…the night I was pushed off the stage in a wheelchair on Raw, I should have walked into Johnny Ace’s office…placed my neck brace on the table and walked out because I wasn’t being respected enough as Internet Champion.”
The wrestling world is currently divided on the issue. While several of them have supported the cause of the current WWE Women’s tag team champions there have also been reports of both of them receiving backstage heat and no sympathy from the locker room.
