Edge had to retire from WWE in 2011 and Beth Phoenix shared her feelings from that moment
Edge remains one of the biggest names in WWE despite only returning to the ring after nearly a decade out.
The Rated-R Superstar was at the top of his game but had to retire due to an injury. That moment shocked everyone but WWE and Edge worked hard to ensure he could make another great return.
Edge made his WWE comeback in 2020 as he participated in the Royal Rumble. While he didn’t win the title then he now has the chance to complete his comeback.
The Canadian faces Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37 after he won the 2021 Royal Rumble. Edge has been supported a lot by his wife, Beth Phoenix, during this run.
The Glamazon is a former WWE Champion and Hall of Famer too. While Phoenix has wrestled here and there, she is doing a great job as a commentator on NXT.
She was speaking to TV Insider about a new WWE documentary called Heaven and was asked about her husband’s retirement:
“I remember crying backstage as a peer when he had to initially announce his retirement in 2011. He didn’t have a choice [due to injury]. I’m so happy to see him have his moment and to do it on his terms.”
Phoenix added that she felt great seeing Edge accomplish things and was asked about another return to the ring.
Beth Phoenix is Edge’s training partner
Phoenix was also asked about a possible return to the ring. However, she wasn’t interested in that as she believed she could do more in her new role.
The Glamazon also shared another interesting bit of information. She added that she was Edge’s training partner and was doing a lot of work in the ring.
“When I was a wrestler, I only really got to work with one person or help one person at a time. In my broadcasting role, I can help everyone on the show, I feel like I have a great job right now.
“I am in the ring all the time though because I’m Edge’s training partner. The wrestling bug will always be with me, but right now, where I’m at is where I belong.”
Phoenix has been killing it behind the desk on NXT and it will be interesting to see how Edge does at WrestleMania 37.
