Bianca Belair reveals the origin of her iconic braided hair

As rumours of a possible hair vs hair match with Bayley gain pace, Bianca Belair shares origins behind her iconic braided weapon

WWE SmackDown women’s champion, Bianca Belair, has utilized her braided her to great effect recently. It was the use of her hair as a weapon against Bayley that landed her the win at WrestleMania Backlash.

And speaking on the Hall of Fame podcast with Brad Gilmore and Booker T, Belair revealed that it was her husband who insisted she does anything she can to ‘stand out’.

“First it just came as something as, I just liked the look of it. My husband taught me a lot, even from the very beginning, because he watched wrestling growing up. He was the very first person that, when I was debating wearing a ring or not, he told me; ‘No, you have to wear that because that makes you stand out’. So that was the first time I learnt the lesson of ‘this whole thing is about unique and standing out and being different’. He’s like, ‘if somebody comes to show and they don’t remember the name the first time they see you, but they will say Hey! that was the girl with the braid’. So it makes you stand out, it makes you unique.”

Belair then explained that apart from her husband, Montez Ford, she was also suggested by her coach Sara Amato to use her hair inside the ring, as she did against Ruby Riott to great effect.

“The second step was; I was in the ring with Sara Amato and she was like ‘you might wanna figure out how to use that, otherwise why are you wearing it? Have a reason behind everything you do.’ And that was another lesson I learnt that day and I remember just going in and hitting Ruby Riott with the braid, and Ruby was like ‘that hurt!’.”

Could Bianca Belair and Bayley clash in a hair vs hair match?

From Ruby Riott to Reginald to Bayley, countless wrestlers have been on the end of a whipping from Belair’s braided hair.

And this has led to WWE possibly bringing back the hair vs hair match. Rumours have surfaced that Bayley and ‘The EST of WWE’ could find themselves in such a match where the loser has to shave their hair.

Bayley even tagged Belair in her Instagram where she threatened to shave off her hair the same way Edge did with Kurt Angle at Judgement Day back in 2002.

Could this happen? Not so soon is our guess. The biggest hurdle to this would be figuring out who goes bald.

Belair losing her would be a massive moment but would also rob her of her identity. And, you can imagine how long it would take her to grow it back all again.
