The RAW Women’s Champion Bianca Belair has been on a roll since making a move to the main roster of WWE. She has impressed both fans and critics with her commendable skills inside the squared circle.
Bianca Belair revealed the name of her favorite athlete and sang praises about her. During a recent interview (via Eric Ball from Bleacher Report), the talented wrestler said that Florence Griffith Joyner aka Flo-Jo is her favorite athlete. Belair said that she saw videos of Flo-Jo when she was a little girl. The RAW Women’s Champion used some adjectives to describe the former track and field athlete from America.
Belair said that Flo-Jo was loud, bold, beautiful, and a fashionista. The 33-year-old credited Flo-Jo for being unapologetically herself. Belair mentioned that Flo-Jo influenced her as a kid and continues to do so even now. She ended by saying that at the Money in the Bank PPV, she would wear Flo-Jo-inspired gear.
The Money in the Bank PPV took place on July 2 and we did see the champion wear an attire that was made famous by Flo-Jo.
Athletics enthusiasts will surely know about the legendary Flo-Jo. She set world records for both the 100 meters and 200 meters in 1988.
Flo-Jo was born and brought up in California. She started running at track meets at a young age. She won three gold medals at the 1988 Olympics.
She retired in 1989. Flo-Jo was conferred with the James E. Sullivan Award of 1988 as the top amateur athlete in the United States, a month after her retirement.
Post her retirement, she designed basketball uniforms for the Indiana Pacers NBA team in 1989. She also served as co-chair of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness.
She announced her comeback to competitive athletics in 1996, as she wanted to set a world record in the 400-meter run. However, tendonitis in her right leg forced quashed her dream. She breathed her last on September 21, 1998, at the age of 38 due to an epileptic seizure. Her contribution to athletics is unparallel and will never be forgotten.
