Bianca Belair faced Becky Lynch on Night 1 of WrestleMania 38 for the latter’s RAW Women’s Championship. The EST of WWE won the match which was closely contested
Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch went back and forth in the breath-taking match. Both women threw their best shots at each other and then some. There were fantastic spots in the match. Lynch delivered a ManHandle slam on Belair onto the steel stairs while the 32-year old Belair hit Lynch with a 450 splash.
Both women showed terrific resilience and the crowd in attendance at the AT & T Stadium in Arlington, Texas kept supporting and cheering them on. In the end, Belair acrobatically countered another ManHandle slam to lift “The Man” on her shoulders and deliver the KOD for the victory.
This win made Belair a two-time world champion in WWE with her first reign lasting 133 days. Her first world championship reign was as the SmackDown Women’s champion. She had won the title from Sasha Banks in a highly-acclaimed match at WrestleMania 37.
Incidentally, Belair’s first world championship reign in WWE was ended by Lynch at SummerSlam last year. Lynch had won that match in just 26 seconds.
Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair had quite the heated rivalry heading into their WrestleMania match. They went back and forth on the episodes of RAW and the WWE live shows assaulting and embarrassing one another.
A vicious punch from Belair to Lynch’s throat caused a fracture to the latter’s voice box during a WWE live event. Lynch returned a couple of weeks later on RAW to brutally assault Belair as she wrapped a chair around the EST and sent her against the ring post.
Belair was announced by WWE to have received trauma to her throat after the attacks but this was a storyline injury to add more fuel to the feud. There were hair-whips and unwanted hair-cutting segments involved in the mix as well.
In their WrestleMania match, Belair suffered a legitimate black eye which she herself revealed on her Instagram account by sharing a few pictures. It could have been caused by a botched senton off the top rope from Lynch which turned into a kick to Belair’s face. However, such accidents do happen in matches and both women deserve a lot of credit for the excellent bout they produced.
