Big E and Apollo Crews go head-to-head on SmackDown
This week’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown features the recently-crowned Intercontinental champion Big E, defend his belt against Apollo Crews.
Big E defeated Crews on the 8th January episode of SmackDown. But, Crews was hyped up by Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman in the following weeks to have another shot at the belt.
And now, the Master of the Five Count has launched a fearsome warning to the challenger ahead of their title bout.
Quoting Mark Henry, the champion threatens to “tear” Crews’ flesh off on the night of their SmackDown meeting.
“In the immortal words of Mark J. Henry, “I will tear your flesh off bro and that’s a promise.” -Me to Apollo on #SmackDown tomorrow. #ICTitle“
This isn’t the first threat he has fired towards Crews. Earlier this week, he was on the Busted Open podcast where he described his “need” to “steamroll” Crews.
He said that his ceiling was beyond his SmackDown opponent, and extended to winning the Royal Rumble, and one day, headlining WrestleMania.
“Winning the Rumble, of headlining WrestleMania, that is where my trajectory needs to be… I need to steamroll Apollo, is what I need to do. From here until now [WrestleMania], that needs to be my mindset.”
This match is going to be an even contest between the two physical wrestlers, but Big E’s words leading up to it indicate that he may well hold onto the Intercontinental title for more than 4 weeks.
He won the title last month after beating Sami Zayn on the Christmas episode of SmackDown.
Ironically, it was Apollo Crews who intercepted Sami Zayn and threw him back in the ring so that Big E could win the belt.
