Big E believes a match with Goldberg is now possible
WWE Champion Big E, weighed in on the possibility of his dream match with wrestling legend Goldberg, during his recent interview with RN Pro Wrestling. Big E has been dreaming of this face-off for quite a long time now.
Goldberg still has a couple of years left on his contract, with two matches locked in for each year. He’s already had one — a WWE Championship match with Drew McIntyre at the Royal Rumble in January — but has not appeared since.
During the interview, Big E said:
“When I cut that nonsensical promo on our podcast, the likelihood to me was like 2.5% tops. But now that I hold this dearly beloved WWE Championship, it’s all possible. I would like to see that happen, that would be incredible. Imagine Goldberg’s last match [against me], I met this man at an in-store signing in Tampa when I was a kid in the late 90s.
“That’s just wildly full circle, 25 years or so later that I can possibly [put him down]. I think he was a little annoyed, I mentioned putting him down like an Old Yeller and I don’t know if he took too kindly to that comment. Let’s relax the putting down, just a nice match, no one will be put down and everyone will live after.”
Earlier as well Big E has talked about his dream match. In September – despite being a huge fan, he made some pretty disparaging remarks regarding the veteran performer.
“Man, I used to make jokes about it because I never thought I’d get the match, but as far as I know, Goldberg is still under contract. He’s still around.
“But it would still be really dope to get that match….who better to retire him? Who better to take him out to pasture, take Old Yeller behind the barn? We’ll see. I just feel like I would be the right person to send him on home, give him his walking cane, and say, ‘Thank you for your service.'”
Will WWE give him his dream match?
It remains to be seen if WWE will give Big E the match that he has always wanted, with a potential showdown maybe happening only next year now.
Although Goldberg is yet to fight one last match this year, the organization will be hoping to use this opportunity at Royal Rumble in 2022 or even WrestleMania 38.
