Former WWE women’s tag team champion Billie Kay posts message after the company’s decision to release The IIconics

Things go from 100 to 0 really, really quickly on WWE. Just a few years back, The IIconics were celebrating an iconic tag team title win at WrestleMania 35.

Peyton Royce and Billie Kay go really far back together. The two Australians were at Pro Wrestling Women’s Alliance together before being snapped up by NXT in 2015.

And 3 years later, they debuted as The IIconics, a name forever etched in women’s tag team history.

The two then became the first Australians to win a belt at WrestleMania when they won the women’s tag team title in a fatal four-way match at WrestleMania 35.

That high was followed by multiple successful title defences, including their win against Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss. But the end was neigh after that.

After their loss to the Riott Squad, the team disbanded as Royce and Kay were drafted to opposite brands in the 2020 WWE draft.

And now, the company has decided to let them go alongside 8 other superstars. Billie Kay posted a long message on Twitter for her peers, fans, and her partner, Royce.

She was in good spirits and thanked the company for giving her a chance to shine. Kay then had a separate section dedicated just for Royce.

And she wrote that it’s fitting that their journey ended together because after all, it started together as well. Her message for Royce read:

“And thank you to life partner, Cassie. Our journey started together and it’s only fitting that it ends together. I love you, I’m beyond proud of you, and I’m with you forever.”

We sincerely hope that it’s not the end of the two in pro wrestling. Hopefully, we can see the two fight alongside, or even opposite to each other, in a promotion like AEW or NJPW after their see out their 90-day no compete clause.
