Samoa Joe was released by WWE last week along with many other superstars
Last week, the mass exodus of superstars from WWE saw 10 wrestlers depart the company as they were released from their contracts.
It was reminiscent of the sackings made in April 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. And just like it did back then, this year’s list had some really big names.
The IIconics, Bo Dallas, and Chelsea Green were on that list. However, the name that really surprised everyone was perhaps that of Samoa Joe.
He had been out of action for a while since getting a concussion in a commercial shoot. Since then, he had been doing commentary on the sides.
But many fans believed that a comeback was in the making considering how big Joe is in the world of wrestling and how the 42-year-old is still past his prime.
But that was not to be. And talking on his Hall of Fame podcast on YouTube, Booker T mentioned how Samoa Joe was similar to himself.
“Joe is like me. Like a utility guy, alright? ‘You need me over here? Alright, I’ll do that. You need me over here, I’ll do that’. And be content with actually doing that; not being consumed with ‘man I gotta get back in the ring’… I just did not see Joe as one of those guys.”
But King Booker also added that he was left surprised by the sacking. Nevertheless, he thinks that Joe is going to make a big impact no matter where he goes next.
“Am I surprised that Joe was on the list? I must say 100%, I am… I do think that it’s a loss for the company and Joe is gonna make a huge impact, wherever he goes, working for somebody else.”
It is surely sad to see such a prevalent figure on the show leave suddenly but we can expect to see him wrestling soon after he completes his 90-day no-compete clause.
