WWE Universe surprised after Braun Strowman release
WWE sent shockwaves around the wrestling world after Braun Strowman was given his release on Wednesday.
Strowman’s termination comes as a surprise after featuring in a Triple Threat Title Match against Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre last month. He also was part of a long rivalry with Shane McMahon beating him at Wrestlemania 37. Last year, Strowman shocked Goldberg to win his first Universal Championship.
Strowman uploaded an Instagram story to cheekily hit back at the fans who did not have his support:
‘The Monster’ was paid almost $1 million a year, which could have been a massive reason for his release. WWE also suffered budget cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to reports, Strowman’s performances were not the primary reason for this decision.
The move could turn out to benefit Strowman as he could sign with Tony Khan’s AEW or move outside of North America to continue his career. AEW have signed high-profile stars in recent times and the addition of ‘The Monster’ would work wonders.
Hall of Famer Booker T’s Reaction after Strowman release
On the Hall of Fame podcast, WWE legend Booker T did not think it was the right decision to let go of Strowman. He added that Strowman was hard to match and became an “enigma.” Brad Gilmore also admitted that he was surprised to see WWE let go of one of their biggest stars in the last few years.
Booker T also explained a possible cause as to why WWE management decided to terminate Strowman’s contract, (h/t Hall of Fame)
“He was an enigma, he was the guy, you know, somewhat of a throwback to the guys that did it much before him. Look at Braun Strowman, even being the enigma that he was, it was kind of hard to match Braun Strowman up with more than 2-3 guys on the roster.”

Booker T also said that top wrestling brands choose to sign smaller athletes in current times. The dimension of big, tall characters aren’t taken too well by fans across the world anymore, according to him.
In his WWE reign, Strowman won the Universal Championship, Intercontinental and RAW Tag Team Championship. Strowman also has the rare accomplishment of being the winner of the Greatest Royal Rumble and the Royal Rumble. He is also a former Mr. Money in the Bank.
With an impressive resume, it’s fair to say that Strowman’s return to the screens is not very far away.
