WWE Plans for Brock Lesnar Return at Summerslam
WWE dropped a teaser for Brock Lesnar’s possible return at Summerslam after a lengthy absence of 12 months.
The Beast’s last appearance was in a loss to Drew McIntyre who took the Universal Championship away from him at Wrestlemania 36.
On this week’s RAW, there was a mention of the eight-time World Champion with McIntyre, Lashley and Kofi Kingston in discussion. This fuelled rumours of a potential match-up with one of the two wrestlers- Lashley or McIntyre.
The two face off each other at Hell in a Cell and it seems that Lesnar could be waiting for them at Summerslam.
Further, Andrew Zarian of during the Mat Men Pro Wrestling podcast claimed that Lesnar could make a return but it depended on tickets and if it made sense given his huge wages (h/t Wrestling Edge):
“Lesnar was early on for SummerSlam plans they were trying to do something. I think the concept behind Lesnar is to justify what we’re gonna pay him [and] we need a more consistent touring schedule so we can build to this and those appearances by Lesnar will help sell tickets, obviously.”
Brock Lesnar‘s comeback to WWE could also boost revenue for the company, struggling with budget cuts. WWE released six Superstars to cope with the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
WWE might also repeat Lesnar’s last match vs McIntyre to bring him into the title fray. The two shared a heated rivalry last year and fans will be looking forward to another encounter.
With fans back from July 16, it is looking likely that a return of some of the old faces are made on television. The possibilities could also include 16-time World Champion John Cena, who also features in Fast and Furious 9.
Will John Cena make a return at SummerSlam?
John Cena’s last appearance in WWE was in WrestleMania 36 where he lost to “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt in the Firefly Fun House match. However, a return for the 16-time champion is on the cards.
John Cena was asked about a full-time return to WWE, after Hollywood. He replied
“No, no, that’s not true. That’s not true. If you think so, watch any wrestling match or WWE performance with one individual,”
WWE welcomes the fans back to live events from the July 16 edition of WWE Smackdown and a return of the legends could be closer than imagined.
