Former WWE Superstar Buddy Murphy on the radar of Impact and AEW
Buddy Murphy is a new target for rival promotions Impact and AEW, after his release from WWE.
According to various sources, Murphy is being looked at as a potential signing after his release in June alongwith Braun Strowman and Malakai Black.
Murphy was released from his WWE contract on June 2, and will become a free agent when his 90-day non-compete clause completes on Tuesday, August 31.
Murphy’s first match outside WWE is against AEW star Brian Cage. This match is for the Battleground Championship Wrestling event on 18 September in Philadelphia. There were also few reports suggesting that IMPACT Wrestling was trying hard to sign Buddy Murphy.
Murphy is on the hotlist of various promotions, but it seems the race is being led by the two companies. He is surely one of the most versatile and gifted wrestlers in the wrestling scene. His career with WWE was full of hurdles and finally ended on a disappointing note.
According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the interest from AEW’s side to sign Buddy Murphy is high and he has many admirers in the company.
Konnan recently revealed on his Keepin’ It 100 podcast that he asked AEW owner Tony Khan about the possible signing. His reaction was quoted as , “You know I can’t tell you that’ and then I looked at him and I go ‘bro, if that **** shows up in Chicago, that place is gonna melt’, and he just smiled. So I think he might have but he has not told me.” (h/t Wrestling Inc)
Bryan is reported to have a signed a contract with AEW, after his long term association with WWE. His debut is expected to be during the Grand Slam edition of Dynamite on TNT on September 22.
Bryan’s signing will be one of the biggest for AEW, as they also lock their eyes at CM Punk.
