Bully Ray is one half of arguably the greatest tag team in the history of pro wrestling known as The Dudley Boyz.
Speaking on the Busted Open podcast, Bully Ray remembered the biggest return he has witnessed of a tag team in the pro wrestling world. According to Ray, it was the Hardy Boyz returning at WrestleMania 33 in 2017 that tops his list. The crowd in attendance at Camping World Stadium rose to its feet when The New Day announced their name.
Matt and Jeff Hardy are two of the most beloved superstars in the history of sports entertainment. They have competed in several promotions and made their name out of high-risk, exhilarating, and high-flying moves over the years.
The Hardys had many memorable matches with The Dudley Boyz and Bully’s respect for Matt and Jeff is immense. Bully admitted that he didn’t have a good memory so he was open to suggestions but according to him The Hardy Boyz setting the arena to a frenzy tops the charts for the biggest return for a tag team.
Tommy Dreamer and Mark Henry were also present on the show and they were also nodding in agreement. Ray remembered that Jeff and Matt were wrestling the day before their return at WrestleMania. He noted that the Hardys took on The Young Bucks in a ladder match on April 1 at Supercard of Honor XI. The 50-year-old said the Hardys didn’t take things easy at ROH just because they had a huge WrestleMania return the next night.
Bully praised Matt and Jeff saying that they only think about the audience and how to give them their money’s worth.
“Maybe the biggest pop in WrestleMania history” – Dave Lagreca
The host of Busted Open has been in the stadiums among the fans during many WrestleManias over the years. When he said that Hardy Boyz returning at ‘Mania moment could be the biggest pop from a crowd, you could fathom the decibel levels.
Lagreca said that he was initially inside the press box. He said he loves to be among the crowd. He mentioned that inside the press box the crowd reactions can’t be heard. So he went out to his wife and daughter who were sitting in the audience. Lagreca noted that it was an outdoor stadium and in those stadiums, the noise mostly goes out.
However, according to him, it wasn’t enough to stop the noise from being as surreal as it was. He couldn’t remember a crowd being as loud as it were when the Hardys returned.
