WWE Superstar Carmella reveals about being told to work hard due to her good looks
The Staten Island Princess Carmella recently appeared on the recent podcast episode of “After the Bell with Corey Graves” (h/t EWrestling News). She claimed that she was told to work twice harder than other stars to be respected as a pro wrestler because of her good looks.
Ms. Money in the Bank mentioned that Bill DeMott told her that she has to work twice as hard as everyone else since she is pretty and people will not respect her because of how she looks. She mentioned taking this as a challenge and conquering it.
“When I got signed in NXT, I remember Bill DeMott said, ‘You’re going to have to work twice as hard as everyone else because you’re pretty … I remember being like, ‘What? That’s crazy.’ ‘You’re going to have to work twice as hard because people aren’t going to respect you because of how you look.’ And it just blew my mind, and I remembered thinking, ‘Okay, noted and challenged accepted.’ So that’s what I did.”
She continued saying in the podcast about how doubtful she was and about the difficulties in getting people to respect her in-ring work apart from how she looks.
Carmella said that she used to think that she would never get the respect that she deserved because of her looks, and she would have ordinary matches and an ordinary career.
“No matter what, I’m never going to get the respect that I deserve because of how I look and that’s how it is. If I didn’t look like this and I had the same matches and same career, people would be like ‘Carmella is amazing, we love her.’ Because I look how I do, I’m not going to get the respect that I deserve.”
Carmella is the winner of the inaugural Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match and also became the first woman to successfully cash in that briefcase and win the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion. She recently got engaged to Corey Graves.
