WWE introduces a change to ‘cold matches’ after Vince McMahon calls for it

The Chairman Vince McMahon once again introduced a rule change – this time to “cold matches” taking place in the ring.

McMahon has constantly kept WWE evolving with different rule changes and policies within the organization. He is now expecting more purposeful matches, and not plain and dry with no storyline.

According to Ringside News’ Steve Carrier, WWE is now switching around ideas time and again. This is seen during the match of Jeff Hardy against Cedric Alexander on Uncooked. The stipulation added was that Hardy would retire if he lost the match. This move baffles fans and critics, who believe this is a new policy by the chairman.

WWE is looking for stories and characters and not limited to professional wrestling matches for the sake of having a match. With this idea, it is safe to say that “cold matches” will not be produced.

Cold matches include stipulations like career on the line matches

McMahon has included various different rules in the past. Earlier, he banned the Curb Stomp finisher of Seth Rollins. He also outrightly banned wrestlers from performing leg slaps.

McMahon wants more characters and personalities for the company, and not just pure wrestling ability. The promotion of NXT stars is a sign that WWE is looking to change the qualities that they require in a WWE Superstar.

Will McMahon Sell WWE ?

After the high rise in stock prices because of Reddit investors, there are rumours of a shock sale of the company. McMahon’s hold over the company still stands firm. He owns close to 37.6% of publicly traded Class A shares and 80.6% of non-public Class B shares.

WWE has seen a lack of fans in the arenas due to the pandemic

WWE signing a deal with Peacock TV over five years amounting to $1 billion is also an indicator that companies will be willing to bid by 2024. With the budget cuts in 2020 and 2021, the WWE has been releasing top stars like Braun Strowman and Aleister Black. McMahon will have his work cut out to start making up for the losses in the last two years.
