Charlotte Flair faced Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania Backlash to defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship in a WrestleMania 38 rematch. This time, however, there was an added stipulation to the bout. The Ronda Rousey versus Charlotte Flair match was an “I Quit” Match.
Their match at WrestleMania 38 was quite good but somehow it felt as if something was missing. Maybe the mishap during the finish could have been one of the reasons.
This time, however, everything was on point. The two women took brutality to a different level and that was also made possible due to the “I Quit” stipulation. Throughout the match, there were many instances where both women seemed to leave the other with no other option but to utter the two dreaded words.
However, in the end, it was the Queen who was forced to say “I Quit” as Rousey put her arm through a chair and locked her in the armbar to inflict excruciating agony.
Rousey became the new SmackDown Women’s Champion while the 13-time world champion was left in tears. Later on, in the show, Kayla Braxton gave an update from backstage that Flair’s x-ray report was out and she had suffered a fractured radius. Pat McAfee was on commentary and he stated that this essentially meant that Flair and broken her arm.
According to Fightful Select, the injury is 100% part of a storyline. It was planned that Flair would be taken off from WWE TV for a short span of time and this kayfabe injury facilitates the same.
“Fightful was told that WWE creative was told Charlotte would be taking a little time off, and a kayfabe injury angle was set up for WrestleMania Backlash.”
Ronda Rousey winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the first time in her career has certainly delighted the fans.
