Chelsea Green was set to be paired with Charlotte Flair before WWE release
Speaking to Fightful Select (h/t WrestleTalk), Chelsea Green has revealed that she was set to be paired up with Charlotte Flair on screen prior to her release from WWE.
Green was one among the ten performers that WWE released this past Thursday, along with a number of other big names like Samoa Joa, Peyton Royce, Billie Kay among others.
The company cited ‘budget cuts’ as the reason for the axing, despite having posted record profits over the past year.
Green was with WWE since 2018 and was set for a big push ahead of the Survivor Series PPV last year. However, she picked up a wrist injury on her debut match on SmackDown, leading to her getting sidelined.
And even though she signed a new contract soon after that, it didn’t matter much as WWE released her on April 15.
Green opens up on plans with Charlotte Flair before release
Following her release, Chelsea Green has now revealed that she was set to pair up alongside Charlotte Flair on screen. According to the released star, WWE had plans to align her with The Queen after the pair had been involved in a Tag Team match on NXT in 2020.
“Funny enough, when I was out there at the very end of the match, I heard Charlotte; Charlotte raised my hand and said something. Said something like, ‘She is going to be next…’, or something along the line that made me think that I was going to be partnered with her or I was going to be her protege. And then, is that the right word? Protege? Yeah!
“And then I kind of heard rumblings of that in the weeks after that I was going to be, I don’t want to say the next Charlotte, but coming up behind her, with her as my mentor, which is amazing. Like, I don’t know if you can get a better spot than that.”
However, despite the initial murmurs, there was no development on the said plan, revealed Green.
And, then, kind of radio silence until the next storyline I heard about. I heard about a lot of storylines.”
Putting her alongside a made star like Charlotte would have catapulted Chelsea Green to immediate stardom. But, sadly WWE never followed through.
