Chris Jericho trashes The Miz vs Damian Priest Lumberjack match at WrestleMania Backlash
AEW Superstar Chris Jericho has taken a dig at WWE following the WrestleMania Backlash PPV this past Sunday, trashing one match in particular.
WWE WrestleMania Backlash went down this Sunday at the ThunderDome. Following up on the excellent WrestleMania 37 last month, it was a largely solid PPV but there was one particular match that caught the eye, for the wrong reasons.
Of course, we are talking about the Lumberjack match between The Miz and Damian Priest. Essentially, programmed the feud blow-off match between the A-lister and the Archer of Infamy, things got a little weird when “Zombies” came out to act as the lumberjacks for the match instead of wrestlers.
This was done in order to promote former WWE Superstar Batista’s upcoming movie, “Army of the Dead”, with the Animal teasing before the PPV about such an occurence.
While Damian Priest went on to pick up the win, the bout in itself was overshadowed by the undead lumberjacks, who even simulated devouring The Miz at the end of the fight.

And, Jericho, never the one to miss out an opportunity to aim a dig at the rival company, took to Twitter to hit out at the Lumberjack match, claiming that it set wrestling back at least 30 years.
This is obviously a dig at WWE after they had made similar comments about AEW’s Blood and Guts offering earlier this month, as revealed by PW Insider’s Dave Scherer.
It was certainly a bizarre direction to go in from WWE, especially at a time they are trying to build Priest into the next star while also having been sowing seeds of a split-up between The Miz and Jo-Mo.
The presence of the “zombies” took the spotlight away from what could have been a fun feud blow-off bout, in turn setting Priest up for bigger things. WWE clearly dropped the ball on that one!
