AEW star Chris Jericho appeared to take a swipe at WWE after NXT releases
Former WWE Superstar Chris Jericho took to social media to take a shot at his ex-employers after a handful of NXT releases were announced.
Jericho took to Twitter to say the following statemtent:
“I think now more than ever it’s obvious, – @AEW is the best pro wrestling company in the world today! Both for fans …and especially for performers. Nothing can stop us now!”
This came in the aftermath of WWE making big releases from the developmental brand. The list includes Bronson Reed, Bobby Fish, Mercedes Martinez among others.
Jericho has been vocal on his social media throughout his career and has taken shots in the past on Twitter. He is currently engaged in a feud with MJF, where he has to complete the ‘Labours of Jericho’ to meet his rival in a singles match.
His statement comes after a huge list of WWE Superstars moving to AEW, making it a good competition for the frontrunning brand. In the last few months, AEW has acquired the signings of Malakai Black, Mark Henry, Big Show among others.
There is also a likelihood of Daniel Bryan and CM Punk moving to join Tony Khan after various rumors resurfaced on social media.
Is AEW outperforming WWE?
Since the formation of the brand in 2019, the company under the guidance of Tony Khan has skyrocketed their promotion. It has currently matching WWE, with ticket sales and merchandising and they believe that soon WWE will be on the same level.
WWE, meanwhile, are facing budget cuts but have already let go of big names like Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt. The loss of talent could be a gain for another, as the companies go head-to-head in the next few years.
WWE has sent a few older stars back on NXT with Finn Balor spending a few months on the brand and then moved back to SmackDown.
