Chris Masters talks about Bobby Lashley using his Master Lock as a finisher
During his short stay at WWE in the mid-2000s, Chris Masters did not win a title or even had a push for a title shot. But he was pretty famous for one thing.
His finisher, the ‘Master Lock’, was a deadly variation of the full nelson hold. He used to claim that the hold was unbreakable.
There were even ‘Master Lock challenges’ held where he challenged his opponents to get out of his hold. And fans have seen that finisher make a return on the show in recent years.
Bobby Lashley, the current WWE champion, uses the Master Lock as his finisher, but calls it the ‘Hurt Lock’.
This was also the finisher he used at WrestleMania 37 to defeat Drew McIntyre and retain his belt, a moment that Booker T compared to The Undertaker’s WM streak getting over.
And talking about the Hurt Lock this week was Chris Masters himself, as he attended Chris Van Vilet’s Insight podcast.
“So yeah, it only makes sense, right? Like, if anybody is going to use the full nelson, the guy who broke it, and then a guy who is such a physical force like Bobby Lashley. I mean, for me, it’s hard to even argue. It only makes sense.”
Lashley was, of course, the guy to break out of the Master Lock some 14 years ago on WWE. ‘The Masterpiece’ also recalled what happened during the first few weeks of Lashley using that finisher and what people told him.
“It was funny, you know, when he first started using it. All the different mentions and stuff like that, and people talking about like ‘that’s the Master Lock, that’s not the Hurt Lock’., and all that type of stuff. In my mind, it created an opportunity for something; ‘who’s got the best full nelson in professional wrestling?’. And it’s been 10 years. Usually, finishers are recycled before the 10-year mark.”
It was pretty cool to see Masters so upbeat about Lashley using his finisher. But those who know their pro wrestling would argue that the Master Lock was just a bit better than the Hurt Lock.
