WWE teased Cody Rhodes’ comeback twice on Raw last night
Rumours were flying around regarding Cody Rhodes‘ homecoming to WWE ever since he announced on Twitter that he is no longer working for AEW. If this week’s Raw is anything to go by, we might be witnessing a legendary match at WrestleMania.
WWE made several Cody Rhodes references on Raw. The Miz in his promo, mentioned how he had found “a very dashing” tag team partner for his WrestleMania 38 match against Rey and Dominik Mysterio.
The Miz said, “I have found a new tag partner going into WrestleMania. Someone I can relate to, someone I can trust, someone from a fighting family. He’s very dashing! Someone who is an athlete and a celebrity.”
Most of the words coming out of his mouth, aligned with Cody. Remember his “Dashing” Cody Rhodes character? Interestingly, The Miz paused a bit after saying “dashing” which led to fans speculating profusely.
In the end it was Logan Paul, who came to the ring and along with The Miz, took out the Mysterios.
Edge throws out an open challenge – asks someone to step up to him for a match at WrestleMania
The Rated-R superstar – Edge cut a scintillating promo in which he threw out an open challenge to any superstar in the locker room for a match at the grandest stage of them all.
During the promo, Edge mentioned that he wanted to face someone who is “undeniable”. During the course of Cody’s debut year, Cody spoke about going from “undesirable to undeniable”. This was another subtle Cody reference.
Edge also mentioned the names of Damien Priest, Finn Balor and also AJ Styles and when such names are taken together, rarely does a superstar among them end up being the eventual opponent. Finn and Priest are out of the picture anyway as they begin a feud with each other next week and it’s likely to continue all the way to WrestleMania.
If this wasn’t enough, WWE shared Edge’s picture following his promo on their twitter handle and mentioned “Smoke or Mirrors” which was another subtle reference to Cody’s old theme “Smoke and Mirrors”.
In conclusion, with all these indirect references this week and Edge pleading for an “undeniable” opponent, there is a realistic possibility of Cody returning next week on Raw and accepting Edge’s challenge. If Cody returns to face Edge at WrestleMania, would you prefer him as a heel or a babyface? Either way round it’s going to be an epic encounter to savor.
