The infamous DiBiase botch explained by Cody Rhodes in 2011
Former WWE Superstar Ted DiBiase Jr. has accused his ex-teammate Cody Rhodes of fabricating a story while in WWE.
DiBiase called out Rhodes for making up a story and ‘beating a dead horse.’
Rhodes spoke about a match in 2011, where he paired up with DiBiase and Wade Barrett to face Ezekiel Jackson, Sin Cara and John Bryan.
According to Rhodes, Jackson was supposed to enter the ring to change the momentum of the match, but DiBiase failed to prevent the pinfall after receiving a drop kick from Daniel Bryan.
“When that happened, I thought I should call an audible,” recalled Rhodes. “I look at Wade [Barrett] and tell him, ‘lets just jump them’ but as I turned, he is already up the ramp and he’s furious.
Rhodes continued, “ It was such an awkward moment, Vince just put his headset back on and sat down.”
DiBiase’s Explanation of the Incident
In a recent interview, DiBiase claimed that Rhodes had made up a story which didn’t happen. He said that he tried to kick out but the referee counted a fast pin.
“Look, I’m just going to say this—that dude will say something and beat a dead horse with it,” but look—that dude knows how to blow something up.”
“I think it’s hilarious and it’s probably a shot at me, but he’d do that all of the time. He’d make something up that somebody said and scream it non-stop in the locker room, and then everybody would adopt it. So, I was pissed because I did kick out. You can go back and watch it, but we had a meeting that day where [they told us] ‘The referees are going to count you out if you don’t kick out!” ( h/t WrestleZone )
No matter which story is true, it surely made for a funny ending. Even WWE chairman Vince McMahon seemed to see the funny side later.
