The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes suffered a torn pectoral tendon while lifting weights before his Hell in a Cell match against Seth Rollins earlier this month.
Cody Rhodes’ wife, Brandi Rhodes, had revealed that he had successfully undergone surgery. Now the former Intercontinental Champion is undergoing rehab in the hope to make a comeback to the ring as early as possible.
WWE announced that Rhodes will be out of action for nine months. The former AEW Superstar, however, did not feel the same way. He recently posted a story on his official Instagram account. Cody Rhodes wrote that he has his plans in place. He also wrote that he has not been concerned with projections from others. From his writing, it seems certain that Rhodes is eyeing a quicker return than WWE expects.
This is certainly great news for wrestling fans as Rhodes’ popularity is at its peak at the moment. His stocks grew up hugely after joining AEW. Cody Rhodes delivered some spectacular matches on the promotion. He also became a three-time AEW TNT Champion. During his first stint in WWE, Rhodes was not booked the right way. That stopped him from showing his true potential.
However, fans knew that if given the right push, the second-generation wrestler possessed all the tools required to succeed. AEW gave him the platform and since his return to WWE at WrestleMania 38, the 36-year-old has been on a different level altogether.
It has been hard times for WWE with a series of injuries to several top Superstars. While the likes of Asuka and Lacey Evans returned to action recently, former world champions like Randy Orton and Rhea Ripley have been sidelined due to injuries.
Randy Orton has been dealing with a back issue. He last appeared on WWE television on the May 20 episode of SmackDown. Since then, Orton has been taking rest to heal his injured back. WWE has mentioned that the Viper is likely to be out of action for the remaining part of 2022.
The initial plan that WWE had for SummerSlam was that Randy Orton would challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. However, after the injury to the Apex Predator, WWE has gone back to the tried and tested Brock Lesnar-Roman Reigns match for the Biggest Event of the Summer.
Rhea Ripley was scheduled to compete at Money in the Bank. She won a fatal 5-way match to become the no. 1 contender for the RAW Women’s Championship currently held by Bianca Belair. The match would have been held at Money in the Bank but Ripley was later ruled out of action due to what seems to be an injury to her teeth and brain. We are not yet sure how long The Nightmare would be out of action.
The Rated-R Superstar Edge has also been deemed injured by WWE. According to the Stamford-based company, the Hall of Famer has suffered a non-displaced orbital floor fracture and will be out of action for an indefinite period. However, this injury is a kayfabe angle to write off Edge from television after being thrown out of The Judgement Day faction that he formed. Although these injuries seem kayfabe, Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton are indeed injured in real life.
We have already mentioned the injury to Cody Rhodes. Add to this the suspensions of former Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks and Naomi, and you can calculate the number of stars that are missing at the moment from WWE.
Most of you would know that Banks and Naomi were indefinitely suspended after walking out of an episode of RAW due to a disagreement with the creative team regarding a match. We now have to wait for the return of Rhea Ripley, Randy Orton, and Cody Rhodes.
