Cody Rhodes left WWE in 2016 after differences with the creative team. He became an integral part of Tony Khan’s popular wrestling promotion AEW since its inception and became a 3-time AEW TNT Champion.
When the American Nightmare and his wife left AEW earlier in the year, rumors were running wild about his possible return to the Stamford-based company. Cody Rhodes sent the WWE Universe into a frenzy when he returned at WrestleMania 38 as Seth Rollins’ mystery opponent and defeated the former Shield member.
Since then, Rhodes received some of the biggest pops whenever he stepped through the curtains. The immense popularity of the former Intercontinental champion helped WWE to form their shows around him and garner some high viewership ratings.
This was until Rhodes suffered an unfortunate injury when he tore his pectoral muscle while lifting weight in the gym before his Hell in a Cell match against Seth Rollins. WWE has announced that Rhodes will need at least nine months to recover from the injury and return to the ring. However, the wrestler feels he can make a comeback much earlier than the expected date.
Rhodes’ return at WrestleMania 38 is among the nominees for the ESPYS’ WWE Moment of the Year. The former Legacy member took to Twitter and wrote about the epic moment:
“Truly a moment I couldn’t envision and a door I thought would never be open again A gigantic gamble and I went all in, wrestling fans returning that energy and seeing so many people vote for this moment fills my heart up Damn I love it! Let’s win an ESPY”
The WWE Universe will get the chance to vote for the ESPYS’ WWE Moment of the Year. Let’s take a look at the final four nominations that you can vote for:
Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes underwent surgery which was successful, and is currently going through the rehabilitation process.
