Possible reason why Edge has been missing from SmackDown after WrestleMania 37

Edge made a huge return to WWE last year and his contract, apparently, gives him a ton of control

WWE star Edge returned to action last year in the 2020 Royal Rumble and even won the 2021 edition to headline WrestleMania 37.

Edge even turned heel leading up to the main show but he was unable to defeat Roman Reigns. This was a triple threat match after Daniel Bryan was added to the mix.

However, it was Reigns who came out on top and even pinned both his rivals to keep the title. Edge, who became a regular on SmackDown before Mania, hasn’t been seen since.

This comes as a bit of a surprise but Billi Bhatti could have provided a reason for all this. He was speaking on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Sheet with Vince Russo and brought up Edge’s WWE contract.

Bhatti brought up that Edge has a contract similar to that of The Undertaker’s. He also claimed that Edge had a ton of control over who he wrestles and the Rated-R Superstar also helped book the match at Mania 37 (h/t Wrestle Edge):

“He’s under what’s called a ‘Taker contract.’ You work whenever you want to work, you work with whoever you want to work with, and you have creative control over you story. Edge has a ‘Taker contract’. Everything that happened at WrestleMania was designed and booked (with everyone else) by Edge.”

When will Edge make his return?

Radio silence is always scary when it comes to a star but Bhatti’s reasoning could be perfect for why Edge has been missing for a while.

Reigns is doing a stellar job as the heel and SmackDown didn’t need another big heel at the moment. The Rated-R Superstar could be saving himself for something big. SmackDown also saw the departure of Daniel Bryan as he lost to Reigns.

The former champion lost to Reigns recently and was banished from the show. This could open the door for Edge to make a return but would he come back as a face or a heel?

WrestleMania Backlash is also around the corner, and this could be the moment Edge has been waiting for.
