Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley had their opening match delayed by rain at WrestleMania 37
Night one of WrestleMania 37 opened with the biggest match imaginable. The WWE championship was on the line.
And Bobby Lashley aimed to defend it from Drew McIntyre, who lost his belt to The Miz at Elimination Chamber this year.
WrestleMania 37 was the event that would have fans back in arenas after almost a year. But the 25,000 inside the Raymond James stadium, and fans around the world, were made to wait.
Rain had swept through Tampa Bay, Florida, and the start of the show was delayed by 35 minutes.
There were also fears that the delay could be longer, but thankfully, the rain stopped. So, how were the two fighters feeling about it backstage when all of this was happening?
Corey Graves revealed just that on his podcast, WWE After The Bell, earlier this week as he revealed the two were “pacing like caged animals” backstage.
“Both Drew and Bobby were pacing, that’s a great analogy, like caged animals, pacing back and forth, ready to tear the house down.”
And tear the house down they did. The two were embroiled in a long, physical battle inside the ring once the bell did ring as Lashley finally got to have his ‘Mania moment.
Lashley beat ‘The Chosen One’ by his Hurt Lock submission, something which Booker T thought was as shocking as The Undertaker’s ‘streak’ ending at WM 30.
The Scotsman’s dream of lifting the belt in front of the fans came to an end for now. But the two put together a really good show and got WrestleMania 37 off to the perfect start.
